North Beach and Chinatown Culinary Tour

A food tour of two neighborhoods...
Close neighbors yet seemingly worlds apart

Explore San Francisco presents The North Beach and Chinatown Culinary Walking Tour and North Beach and Chinatown at Night Walking Food Tour, the best and most authentic food tours of North Beach and Chinatown. Both culinary tours take you on a delicious foodie walk through these two neighboring districts where any gourmand would be ecstatic to spend a few hours. Join us on the best and most authentic food tours of San Francisco, to two of the most iconic and best fed neighborhoods imaginable: Chinatown and North Beach. As you learn about the area's history and unique cultures you will sample the best foods that either neighborhood has to offer.

In Chinatown you will be deilighted by the bustling Dim Sum houses, the small cafes, and tea shops. In addition to these usual stops, we take you to the fortune cookie factory, and to off-the-beaten-path eateries, some where no English is spoken and some that don't even have a sign denoting their existence, you have to know that they are there. Luckily for you, we are in the know, as your guides are quite familiar with these areas, where they either were born and raised, or where they have spent so much time, the locals think of them as locals.

You can enter an alley in Chinatown and the signs are in Chinese, and you exit in North Beach next to a bar where Jack Kerouac frequented. Skirting the Barbary Coast, we proceed to the cafes, pizzerias, espresso houses, bakeries, and saloons of North Beach.
This portion of the food tour is mostly all about Italian cuisine as this is San Francisco's Little Italy. The locals are serious about their food, there is even a world-renowned pizza school that is possible stop for this culinary tour. Along the way you will experience Italian spoken as much as English, live small operas in cafes, the aroma of bread being baked, candy being made, coffee roasting, fans cheering at soccer games, milk steaming for espresso, and the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill flying over head.

To make things interestng there are now also two different  versions of this tour: One begins at 2:00PM and one begins at 6:30 making now two walking  tours of these two neighboring neighborhoods that are slightly different depending on the time you depart.

During the day, when the shops, temples, and museums are open so we  explore a bit more. This is the tour that shows you the behind the scenes Chinatown,  take this tour if you are curious about local customs and businesses  and how they operate. We might go into the temples, the herbalist's shop, perhaps we will see a live  poulty seller, the flower stalls, the produce vendor, we will go into a gift shop or two that tourists never get to see.

At night the work-day ends, and as the business world winds down the restaurant and cafe scenes are just waking up and the nightclub & bars, and strip clubs, are getting ready for the night, but the streets are less hectic and the atmosphere is more relaxed.

Watch this video and have a delicious taste of the North Beach and Chinatown Food Tour. Enjoy!

Other Considerations

Gratuity for your tour guide is customary, though not required.
The industry average is 20%, and can be given to your guide in cash at the conclusion of your tour.

We recommend making your reservation at least 7 days in advance to ensure availability. Ticket sales end 24 hours before each tour.

Tours require a minimum of 4 guests to run. If your scheduled tour does not reach this minimum number of guests then we will attempt to find another date that suits your schedule.

24 hours before the tour, sales will end. At that point a final decision will be made by the tour guide whether or not to conduct the tour
Because of agreements with many of our tour partners, we must cancel tours with less than 4 guests in attendance. Please check your email.
We will try to reach you 48 hours in advance of the tour if the tour has low ticket sales and it looks as if it might be canceled.

Please make sure that we have a working cell phone number for you, so that we can reach you even if you are travelling

Please note: While there will be drinking, we will be serving you no more than 2 or 3 drinks for the entire tour. If we see that you are purchasing additional alcohol, we will slow our service accordingly.
We are not obligated to discuss this with you, we are letting you know now. Our prime directive on tour is to make sure that everyone has a great time. Therefore we do not cater to drunks.
All drunks will be left behind, or we will put you in a LYFT home. But you will not be allowed to continue the tour. And there are no refunds whatsoever.
