Mission District Food Tours

Paula of Chile Lindo Seemingly built for Food Tours, the Mission District is a celebration of the "Culinary Arts", the neighborhood is now considered to be a world-class dining destination, one of the capitals of the "Foodie-world".

The Mission District Food Tour-North takes you inside this vibrant neighborhood where dozens of restaurants with seating for thousands of guests exist along the Valencia Corridor from about 16th to 19th Streets.Besides the quality of the food, which is the result of such fierce competition, the diversity of the food is probably the biggest draw to this area's eateries. Our MIssion District Food Tour takes you into this delicious and exciting world. Our guides, your hosts, all live in this neighborhood and know this streets intimately.

The Mission District is San Francisco's first neighborhood and remains the heart of this vibrant city. For decades, irresistible, wallet-friendly food had been a hallmark of the frenetic, urbane, multiethnic, and slightly funky neighborhood known as the Mission. But over the last few years the influx of restaurants has accelerated and pushed the culinary scene to new heights. Their owners, who are often also the folks at the stove, are drawn to the area’s once lower rents and try-anything clientele. These eateries are now the best in the city and are the most exciting and affordable because, unlike some downtown mainstays, they’re not catering to one-time visits from tourists or to the expense account, suit wearing FiDi crowd, but must instead attract and keep, local customers with no-holds-barred cooking and fair prices, and in this neighborhood with such a highly developed and changing food scene, competition is fierce. They’ve made the Mission the city’s go-to neighborhood for good food, and on weekend nights you’ll find the streets crawling with urbanites looking for a fun, fresh place to try. In other words this is Foodie Heaven. The people who live in this area have grown accustomed to excellent dining choices and have come to expect nothing less than outstanding food choices. The Mission with such a an ingrained tradition of dining out, where more locals eat dinner out than at home, a restaurant had better be able to compete, because undoubtedly, a few doors down, there is always a new place getting ready to open.

The Mission is also one of the largest districts in the city of San Francisco and the weather is always five degrees warmer than in the rest of the city. With such a strong tradition rooted in food and such a large area to cover, we have divided this area into two, and the food tours that we offer here are decidely different. The Mission North Food Tour along the 16th & Valencia Street Corridor is less Latin and more diverse, with more of a focus on cutting- edge food. There is also more of a single, hip vibe to the clientele here and the bars are hopping well into the night. The Mission South Tour travels along 24th Street and although this area is beginning to gentrify as more Silicon Valley folks move into the area, the focus is still more on the family here and the cuisine is more Latin American traditional.
