Join us on this fully escorted tour, led by an expert local guide,
we will take you to the best spots, like we'd show to our own visiting family and friends,
we show you the hidden gems, and the real city. Come
see the city, Explore San Francisco
There isn't just one Chinatown, but two: One belongs to the locals, the other beckons and charms the tourists. They overlap and dance with each other, drawing more visitors annually than the Golden Gate Bridge. At Explore San Francisco, we show you the city as a local, so we will indeed take you to the main street for tourists, Grant Street but even on this street there are hidden gems that most people don't know about, we will show them to you. Then we will also escort you into the alleys and side streets where the residents lead their lives, usually unseen by most tourists.
We are going to see the sights and we'll be transported to another, more exotic world. We will sip fragrant teas in a gourmet tea shop. We will eat Dim Sum and visit a fortune cookie factory, visit a Buddhist temple or two, trek through the back alleys exploring the city within a city. This food tour will have you sampling delicacies at places that you would not find on your own...
Portsmouth Square was once the heart of the city and on the waterfront, North Beach used to be on the waterfront also...
Let's cross the street and bid welcome to North Beach...
North Beach is that rare thing -- a neighborhood that manages to be a perennial hit with tourists, and also to remain beloved by San Franciscans. It's best known as San Francisco's Little Italy, with its high density of check-clothed ristorantes, caffes and Old World delicatessens. It's also a popular pilgrimage for fans of the Beat movement seeking the old haunts of Kerouac and Ginsberg, dive bars and strip clubs. However, North Beach is no relic, and it has much to offer beyond pasta and poetry and porn.
When we dine in North Beach, enjoy basta pasta or make your own canoli, enjoy espresso or a slice of pizza. We'll go to a bakery from the 1800's and sample olive oils and flavored balsamics. We'll stop at a typical neighborhood deli, and try freshly baked foccacia. Then we will then go to a semi-secret spot in the heart of the neighborhood with one of the best views in the city, so make sure and bring your camera! Then we'll see the neighborhood sights including: St Peter's and Paul's Church, Washington Square, Grant Street, Columbus Ave, St. Francis of Assisi Church, Broadway, City Lights Bookstore and Vesuvio's.
